Essential & Botanical OIl Information

Intimate Scents carries and uses two (2) types of organic oils:

  • Botanical Oils - Very simply, we use organically grown botanical oils that are made from plants and flowers.  Organically grown botanicals prohibit the use of any environmentally harmful chemicals and genetically modified organisms that may be a detriment to our health.  The organic primary strategy is prevention, which includes the build up of healthy soils, and healthy plants that are better able to resist disease and insects.

  • Essential Oils - Depending on the species of plant, essential oils are extracted from the petals, leaves, roots, bubs, twigs, rhizomes, wood, bark, resin or fruit.  In a few cases, every part of the plant growning above groudn is used.  There are several ways of obtaining the oil, the most common being steam distillation.  This involves putting the plant material in a large, closed container know as a vat, and forcing steam through it.  The heat and pressure release the tiny droplets of essential oil from the plant, which then rise with the steam out through spiral tubing.  This cools the steam and turns it back into a liquid, the essential oil (being generally lighter than water) will float on the top and then is skimmed off.

 FOR YOUR SAFETY

1.  Never take essential oils internally.

2.  Read about an essential oil before applying it.

3.  Essential oils are very concentrated substances and should be diluted before applying them to the skin. Follow guidelines or recipes which recommend a 2%-5% solution.

4.  Have a recipe’s concentration of essential oils when using with children. Do not use essential oils with infants.

5.  Do not apply citrus essential oils, especially Bergamot before direct exposure to the sun. These essential oils increase photosensitivity.

6.  Essential oils are not soluble in water. Make sure you dilute or fully disperse them when using water as a base.

7.  Essential oils can cause a prickly, irritating sensation to the skin. Do not rub water on the area. Doing so will cause the oil to spread. Apply any vegetable/carrier oil to the area; this will cause the essential oil to be absorbed and ease the irritation in minutes.

8.  Keep essential oils away from your eyes.

9.  Keep essential oils out of the reach of children and animals.

10.  If skin irritation occurs or an allergic reaction occurs with any essential oil or product with essential oils in it, discontinue use.

11.  Essential oils should not replace proper health care. If you are under medical supervision consult with your health care provider before using essential oils.

These suggestions for Your Safety are not to be considered complete and all-inclusive.
